Louisiana State University Athletics
The LSU Tigers are most prominent in the sport of football, though the University does offer baseball and track and field, both of which have gained Louisiana State at least one championship trophy. The annual rivalry against Ole Miss’ football program is a tradition of the athletics program.
Louisiana State University is an NCAA Division I school, with baseball, basketball, football, golf, swimming and diving, track and field, cross-country, and tennis for men and basketball, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, track and field, cross-country, tennis, and volleyball for women. The team nickname is the Tigers. There is also a co-educational cheerleading team, a band, a dance team, and a mascot.
Sports facilities include a stadium with seating for over 91,000 people, an indoor arena for volleyball, basketball, and gymnastics, a baseball stadium, the softball field, a track stadium, a field house, a pool, soccer complex, an indoor practice facility, a tennis stadium, and a golf course.
Louisiana State University Tiger teams have won the numerous championships. In 2004 the football team won the national title, and women’s teams advance to the final rounds in basketball and softball. Four students were also academic All-Americans.
LSU football can be heard on the radio and is also televised. Men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and softball are also broadcast on radio.
