Louisiana State University Admissions
One positive aspect to LSU’s admissions policy is that applications from out-of-state residents are weighed equally against in-state applicants. However, the overwhelming majority of students are Louisiana residents. The average ACT score range is 21 to 26. Approximately eighty percent of applicants are accepted. Louisiana State uses a combination of high school GPA, test scores, and class rank to determine admission eligibility. Students who have a GPA above 3.5 and a SAT score of 1030 or ACT score of 22 are guaranteed admission.
Applications to the undergraduate programs are accepted through April 15 for the fall semester, with an application fee of $40. Late applications will be charged an additional $15. In addition to the application form and fee, students must provide transcripts and test scores. Applications can be submitted on-line.
Students will be evaluated on the combination of their grade point average, test scores, and their class rank. Students in certain majors must have particular test scores higher than those required for admission to the University. High school course prerequisites include four units of English, three of mathematics with a strong recommendation for four, three of natural sciences, three of social studies, two of one foreign language, one half unit in computer studies, and two half units of additional courses. Performance and arts courses are acceptable as electives.
Graduate students must provide the following for admissions to the graduate school: application and fee (online applications will be processed much faster), test scores, transcripts, and any additional supporting documents required by the department. A graduate application has an application fee of $25. Students should generally have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0.
Admission to the LSU law center figures in an applicant’s undergraduate grade point average and LSAT score. Other factors that are considered are letters of recommendation, a personal statement, work ability, and writing ability. Applicants must also have good moral character.
